How to become more interesting

This is a guest post I wrote for Catherine over at Cath In College

I’m very sorry to say that being caught up on all your Netflix shows isn’t the coolest thing in the world. What does make people more interesting is the things they do in their free time. Whether you need to beef up your resume with hobbies that make you stand out or need something to talk about when you meet new people, here are a few ways to make you more interesting.

Vacation Recap: A photo essay

I need a vacation from vacation. I'm drinking nothing but detox tea and water once I'm back home and I'm starting a new workout program asap to get ready for Austin City Limits in a few months.

Last week we drove out to Odessa Monday and I spend almost the entire trip reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and my Kindle battery–which is suppose to last me a month– gave out on me by Thursday because I've been reading so much.

Monday we got in went to dinner with Adrian's family, we were all so tired from the five hour drive that we came home and crashed.

Tuesday we were up bright and early and made our way further west to New Mexico.

Decorate on a {tight} budget

Hi, everyone! I'm Susie, the 20-year-old college blogger behind In Susie's Shoes. I currently live in Arlington, Texas and study journalism and public relations at UTA. I spend most of my drinking excessive amounts of coffee and Instagramming too many pictures of my pup. My blog consists of my latest fashion finds and tried-and-true recipes I've been cooking up. Check it all out for yourself at insusiesshoes.blogspot.com

As much as I grew up on the idea of being non-materialistic, I won't lie to you: I love having nice things. But being that I am 20 years old and a full-time student with only a part-time job, paying rent and pleading with my mom to loan me twenty bucks for gas is a little higher on my priorities list than dropping a couple hundred dollars on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale or buying a $1500 coffee table. Online shopping consists of hitting the "Shop from: Lowest to Highest" option on the drop down menu. And even then, I have to close out of the tab because I know I still don't need that pair of $5 socks from Forever21 or another coffee mug from Etsy.

Simple yet chic

My name is Jerrieal and I am the editor and writer of the Fashion and Lifestyle Blog Lumarnescene. I am currently a student at The University of Texas at Arlington and Public relations major. The reason that I started my blog was because I wanted to have an outlet of my own to be able to express myself and to try something different. I always believe in following your heart, because you never know where it may lead you.

I am happy to present to you all this simple yet chic outfit which is great for transitioning from the summer into the fall season. With these jeans being my favorite I thought that I would add a little fall color to it to get you all ready for the best season all year round. The "shirt" that I'm wearing is actually a dress that a bit to short for me. I love how flow and loose it is, which is why it is great to pair with jeans.

Adding a few accessories such as these Kendra Scotts, a small smartphone wallet and a casual pair of shoes you are all set to go for a causal day for running errands or spending time with family. Fall is the best time of the year, and as you can tell I ready for this season!

Thank you so much for stopping, and thank you Hannah-Beth for giving me this opportunity!

xoxo,
Jerrieal

Road trip packing list

Schick, back to school, college, packing, packing list, list, checklist,

I have exactly one week left of summer, and getting ready for back to school means I'm taking a last minute vacation. This week I'm rolling west toward New Mexico to visit Carlsbad caverns and family with my boyfriend and his parents.

Today I'm working with Schick for a mini packing list for college, or in my case a last minute road trip. I'm a commuter to campus, so I never feel the need for those huge back to school dorm packing lists, but this is a good one for a weekend getaway mid semester for your sanity.

My trip is going to be packed–lol get it. The caves are a good seven hours away, so I need clothes that are above all comfortable for the long drive. We're also making a few stops along the way to hike, dine and spend time with family. We're going for seven days, so my list might seem a little big for a weekend get away. Here's what I'm packing

I want to take a minute to talk about these Schick Disposable Razors. I've been loving the Hydro silk disposable razors recently and they are definitely a must have for my packing list and for back to school. I printed off this BOGO free coupon so I'm stocked up. Right now Schick is running their #SchickSelfieSweep where you can win a $10,000, a laptop, selfie sticks or loads of other prizes.

I made up a printable version of my packing list that you can download and print here.

We've only got a week left, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. You can follow me across Texas on my Snapchat, my username is That_cool_girl, or just use the QR code in my sidebar. Be sure to enter the Schick Selfie Sweeps and pick up Schick disposable razors today with this coupon.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Schick®. The opinions and text are all mine.

Maintaining Friendships when Life Gets Busy

When life gets busy, there are plenty of ways we can put forth a little extra effort to keep the bonds of friendship strong.

Hey there, Hannah-Beth’s readers! My name is Catherine. How’s it going? I won’t lie, I’m a bit stressed...

I just finished my first year at Stanford, and the one thing I worry about the most going into sophomore year is how I am going to keep in touch with my friends from freshman year. I was lucky enough to have lived in a dorm with 98 amazing researchers, athletes, musicians, artists, engineers, activists, and academics, nine-or-so of which over the course of the school year ended up becoming my closest and dearest friends.

Seek Adventure in Your Everyday Life (Phone Wallpaper)

Hi readers of The College Girl Daily! I am so excited to join you today to share a little inspiration as we get ready to head back to school and take advantage of summer adventures. My name is Gina and I blog over at Gina Alyse, where I share my thoughts on creativity, travel, blogging and life. One truth that stands at the core of my blog is that we are all made for creative adventures.

Sometimes we think adventure means traveling to a foreign place or trekking through a jungle or hiking up a mountain. But adventure lies in all the little things we do everyday, both big and small. Adventure in its simplest form can mean moving forward. How often do we do this in our everyday lives? By looking at this definition, we go on adventures when we read books and progress towards a new chapter, when we clean out our closet and find hidden treasures or when we take a different trail on the bike path.

Adventure means embracing the new in our life. It means treating each day as a gift, a time to experience new things. Adventures are young, wild, free, thrilling and life-changing. They breathe life into us. So I challenge us today to seek adventure in the small moments. Whether you are writing a blog post, brushing your teeth, or eating breakfast, find your mountain to climb and your change you want to bring to this world.

For a little reminder, I've created this phone background to inspire us to seek adventure everyday and keep moving forward.

What adventures are you going to take this summer and into the school year?

Life as we know it: Changing jobs and starting a new semester

So many things have been changing this week that I haven't even had time to catch my breath. I've been working extra at my internship and LOFT right before vacation to save up a little spending money for my trip and Adrian's birthday in September.

I was really sad earlier this week because I had to quit my job at the newspaper. I knew it was going to be too much during the semester with my blog, internship, and working enough to pay my bills, not to mention studying and going to classes. There are only so many hours in the day, and if I could, I'd do everything. But when it comes down to it, I need to focus on classes and paying my bills.

I shot my sister's senior pictures this week too. She'll be graduating high school next spring and was really excited to get some shots done. It was weird being exclusively behind the camera, and I realized how hard it is to dictate posing instructions. Normally when I shoot my own outfit posts I know exactly what to do to make myself look good, but putting those instructions into words was a bit of a challenge. I found myself just moving her limbs stuff for her. I also got to play around with a lot more photoshop techniques with her shots. Normally I just do a little bit of color correction on my own photos, but her's I got to play with getting rid of stray hairs and really changing the tone and mood of her shots. I'll probably share more shots from her session a little later.

Adrian and I are officially on vacation now! We're heading on a road trip to New Mexico to visit some of his family and see Carls Bad caverns. I hope we get to do a little hiking too. Anyway, I just wanted to give a general update on everything because I was MIA for a few days there.

I've also decided to tone down my posting frequency now that I'm starting classes again. I met with a blogger friend for coffee the other day who said she only posts things if she feels she has valuable content. For a while there I felt like I would post something just to post something and keep up with a schedule. So I'm changing gears and going to really focus on better content, I've also been really focusing on my social media game, specifically Instagram recently too.

Anyway, as we get back into the swing of the busy semester I'm looking forward to where life takes me. I hope everyone gets a little R&R before school starts. I'll see everyone next week.

Cozy up with U by Kotex

This post is sponsored by U by Kotex® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
Period, bringingbackcomfy, undies, time of the month, liners, panty liners, U by Kotex, U by Kotex liners, U by Kotex panty liners,
My favorite thing in the world is snuggling up in my PJs with a cup of tea and a good read. Getting comfy is one of the first things I do at the end of a long day. My boyfriend likes to keep the apartment chilly, so it gives me an excuse to wear my favorite PJ pants and my fuzzy socks even in the middle of August.

When I'm having my time of the month comfort is so important. Unfortunately we can't just roll around in our PJs all day when aunt flo comes to visit. That's why I use U by Kotex Curves Liners to keep my feeling comfy no matter what clothes or undies I wear. I'm way too busy to be constantly worrying about my period, and when I use these babies and I feel like my period is no big deal. I also make sure to always keep supplies in my backpack or purse just in case.

Be sure to enter the #BringComfyBack Contest by visiting bringcomfyback.com and uploading your creative pic or gif showcasing your best uncomfy face. You could win $200 to Urban Outfitters, a Go Pro Hero 3 white camera, a $100 Sephora gift card AND U by Kotex products.

Taking stock: August week 2

It's been a very long extended weekend. Saturday we had Adrian's nephew's first birthday party, and I think I ate so much monster themed candy that I don't want to look at another–adorable– chocolate covered Oreo again. Sunday I worked inventory at work which ended up not being that bad except for the fact that I had to get up at 4:45 a.m. and counting sweaters is significantly less fun than helping people buy them. Sunday Adrian and I swam at a friend's apartment then headed to Friday's for endless apps –which is heaven sent. After we drove to Fort Worth for Steel City Pops and right after finishing a chocolate popsicile with a brownie realized we had a flat tire. We're spending Monday getting the tire fixed and I have some dental work.

Here's what I've been up to this week.

Reading: How to succeed in college by Sara Laughed
Watching: The Simpsons all the time on FXX

How to Succeed in College

college, organizations, getting good grades, grades, GPA, organization, class, college classes, straight As, better grades,

Hey guys! A blogger buddy of mine over at Sara Laughed just wrote a spectacular ebook called How To Succeed in College. Me and a few other bloggers got a chance to read the 80 page ebook a week before it launched and I haven't been able to put it down.

I'm definitely one of those people who enjoys reading about making great grades and managing my time while in college. Sara's book is up there with one of my favorite college books.

Here's a little of Sara's story about why she wanted to write the book.

"When I came to university, I was completely overwhelmed. There are so many facets to the American college experience, from getting motivated to writing a college paper to taking your first final exam. How to Succeed in College is an 80-page guide to every aspect of my college process, broken down into actionable steps for anyone who is currently where I was. It is designed to be easy to put into practice, both for students who are new to college and for those have been in school for a while."
Sara's book covers everything you need to make the best grades you can this semester: which classes to take for your degree, how to set up a planner, how to create a study plan and even how to write those huge essays. There are tons of tips that I plan on implementing myself this school year with the hopes of getting a better GPA. You can read more about the ebook here.

You can get Sara's ebook here for $8.95 and take it with you wherever you go. I even downloaded it to my phone for super quick reference during the semester.

Be sure to check out Sara's blog Sara Laughed and get How to Succeed in College which is out TODAY!

I've been wearing this LOFT skater dress ever since I got it last week. I love this dress because it's so cool for the hot Texas summers and the high-low hem makes it low maintenance enough to run around in during the day. I paired this with my super casual chucks and some oversized pearl studs. I had a lot of trouble choosing a necklace to go with this neckline, so I just opted for the studs. I'll definitely be wearing this around campus as we go back to school because it takes a while for Texas to get the fall weather.

What are some of your favorite dresses for transitioning to summer to fall?

How to find the good study spots on campus

college, study, studying, good grades, good grades in college,

Studying can be hard in noisy environments, a great way to focus is finding isolated study around campus. There are TONS of hidden gems of study spots around campus just waiting to be discovered. Switching up your usual campsite makes studying a little more interesting and helps you get some serious work done.

1. Smaller restaurants

When you have a few minutes before class, check out a new nearby shop for a coffee or bagel. Scope the place out for ample seating and make sure it's not too crowded or noisy.

2. Find the hipster libraries

It took me a few semesters to realize we have an architecture and a fine arts library separate from our main one on campus. These smaller ones are probably mainly used my those students of that major, but as long as there's an open cubical or table it's prime study location.

3. Studying outside can be a thing if it's not too hot, cold or raining

While you're walking around look for picnic tables near buildings. I've noticed some random tables hidden in clusters of trees that are almost never being used. Just remember that books and papers can get windy really fast, so plan ahead with a water bottle or your keys as paper weights.

4. Figure out the quiet floors/areas of the library

If you're kind of tired hunting around then just ask a librarian which floors/areas of the main library are designated for quiet study. I had to work on a group project last semester on a non-quiet floor and it was so much more difficult to focus. The ideal cubical is well lit–I like natural light when you can get it– and away from any distractions. Last semester I found one on the quiet floor right next to some library office. You'd think librarians would be quieter. Also feel no shame for giving people the stink eye for being to loud in these areas.

Studying doesn't have to mean you cooped up in your bedroom for hours and hours on end. What are some of your other favorite study spots?

Restock your bathroom before back to school

I feel like every one of my recent posts have been about back to school, but there's just something so exciting about getting ready for a new semester. Today I'm working with Schick to talk about getting your bathroom essentials for back to school.

I headed to Walmart this week to restock my bathroom before classes get started. I've got an insanely bad habit of letting all of my toiletries run out all at once, so I was in desperate need for basically everything.

Restocking before school starts in one less thing you need to worry about once the semester gets under way. I'm also the type of person who likes to have backups for my backups. So I've been known to buy two or three of the same products just so I can keep one in the car, one in my backpack and on in my drawer at the office. Here's what I'm stocking up on.

Disposable razors

With as much swimming as I've been doing, I've been loving these Schick hydro silk disposable razors. I used this BOGO coupon to get a second pack of for free so I'm stocked for the semester.

Schick is also running their Summer Selfie sweepstakes with some crazy good prizes like like $10,000 in tuition, laptops, speakers and more. Check out my #SchickSelfieSweeps entry below and follow me on Insta!

Hair ties and bobby pins

I typically have a hair tie on my wrist at all times. I've been on my last one for a while now and have been basically babysitting it so I don't lose track. The same goes for bobby pins because they're so easy to lose.

Shampoo, condtioner and shower gels

When my hair was longer I went through hair products like crazy. I still like the larger bottles though so I can go a little longer without getting more. When there's a sale I'm also sure to get two or three bottles to keep under the sink.

Makeup wipes

For days when I'm way too tired to properly wash my face I like using makeup removing wipes to get me through my nightly routine faster. I also like to keep a pack in my gym bag incase I have to run somewhere after my workout.

Want more back to school posts? Check out other things I've written here and follow me on snapchat for behind the scenes looks at The College Girl Daily.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Schick®. The opinions and text are all mine.
