Book inspired outfits: The Secret History by Donna Tartt

This is a type of post I've been thinking about doing for a while. I'm a book worm by heart, and I love the idea of blending my love of books and fashion. So I'm going to start doing outfits inspired by whatever I'm currently reading. I'll also include a quick synopsis of each book and if I'm feeling ambitious a playlist that I think fits with the mood of the book.

This outfit is inspired by Donna Tartt's The Secret History. I picked this book up right before vacation as something to read on the long road trip. My kindle–which is suppose to have a month long battery– ended up dying halfway through the trip because I was reading so much.

This book follows a college transfer student from California to a small Vermont college. Richard–the main character– ends up getting involved with the Greek class, an isolated group of students who end up having to keep a deadly secret. I really liked the world Tartt created at the college and especially so with the students' professor, Julian. Here's the outfit I came up with.

The secret history, secret, history, the, Donna, Donna Tartt, Tartt, reading, books, fashion, reading fashion, book fashion, The Goldfinch, pulitzer,

Blazar: American Eagle // Booties: Charlotte Russe // Sweater: TopShop // Trousers: StyleBop // Scarf: Epaulet

Everyone in the book dresses very well, even just being in college. Most of the characters are men, but this menswear inspired outfit is something I could definitely see myself wearing–if it weren't for those gorgeous $400 pants. I really loved watching these characters come together and then fall apart as the story progressed.

If you like surprises I suggest skipping the prologue, as it tells you the plot in the very beginning. However I would argue that knowing the plot make me stick with the book a little more, especially in the slower parts.

Here are a few songs I though of while reading. To hear the full playlist click here.

Let me know what you think of these types of posts or what I should read next!
