Vacation Recap: A photo essay

I need a vacation from vacation. I'm drinking nothing but detox tea and water once I'm back home and I'm starting a new workout program asap to get ready for Austin City Limits in a few months.

Last week we drove out to Odessa Monday and I spend almost the entire trip reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and my Kindle battery–which is suppose to last me a month– gave out on me by Thursday because I've been reading so much.

Monday we got in went to dinner with Adrian's family, we were all so tired from the five hour drive that we came home and crashed.

Tuesday we were up bright and early and made our way further west to New Mexico.

We spend the day at Carlsbad Caverns which was so gorgeous but left me very sore the next day. It was surprisingly chilly underground which was weird with the heat outside. We hung around for lunch and snow cones before the bat flight which was eerily peaceful. As we were leaving we got to see the bats a little closer as they flew around the park.

Wednesday we went out to the Odessa Meteor cite, which Adrian's family made seem like a tiny hole in the ground, but they had some information and a path to walk through the creator, so it was actually pretty neat.

After, we drove an hour or so west to Monahans State Park where we rented sleds and played on the sand dunes. Climbing up the huge hill in loose sand was murder on our already sore legs. I wiped out once and we got some great pictures of me face first in some sand. I also rolled down sans-sled and was insanely dizzy after. I'm pretty sure I still have sand in my ears.

Overall it was a great trip and I'm so happy I got to take it before school starts this week on Thursday. I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.
